Specialist Growers of Roses Ancient & Modern

We have been growing roses in Norfolk for over 40 years and take great pride in producing quality plants. Old Roses are our special passion, yet we love roses of all persuasions and stock many beautiful Species, Shrub, Climbing and Rambling roses, both modern and old. Our aim is to offer a range that fully embodies the diversity roses can bring to your garden. Form, fragrance, foliage, fruit and flower come in a multitude of variations and permutations, and there are roses for virtually every type of garden, situation and taste.

Most of our roses can be purchased bare root (dormant) for delivery from November until March (these can be pre-ordered from June onwards). Then from April through to July, we offer a selection of roses potted in peat-free compost.

Good cultivation in virgin soil, strict grading and minimal storage ensure that our roses arrive with our customers in the best possible condition.

We hope our unique collection of over 500 varieties, provides some garden or gift inspiration, but if you have any questions about our stock, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we will be happy to help.

On Trevor’s Rose Growing Journey…

Born and brought up in Surrey, I came to Norwich in the late 1970s to study biology at the University of East Anglia, but it was a holiday job with Peter Beales Roses that really sparked my interest. After graduating, I jumped at the opportunity to work for Peter full-time – a move that would inspire a life-long love of roses and a career devoted to them.

Captured by their history, romantic beauty and intoxicating fragrance, the Old Roses have always been a special passion for me, and in 1984 – in youthful exuberance with my wife Vanessa – we decided to take the leap and start up our own rose nursery, specialising in Old Roses. We planted our first crop of a few thousand rose stocks by hand – it was a back (and fingernail) breaking start. After spending the evenings trawling through the Yellow Pages for potential customers, we thankfully discovered there was still an appetite for Old Roses in the industry, and we were soon supplying many specialist garden centres, stately homes, and other nurseries across the UK and Europe.

The nursery grew alongside our family, and with four children we always had plenty of helping hands (very good they were too!). Although all our children flew the nest a long time ago, our youngest, Henry, came back to join the business in 2014. He took his RHS exams and gained valuable garden centre experience at Fulham Palace. His youth brings lots of new ideas, talents and enthusiasm. He was later joined by Esme, who joins us remotely from her home in Scotland, to assist in the office, having had a career in Marketing for arts and literary organisations in Edinburgh.

40 years on and, remarkably, we’re still here. We still keep everything in-house and stick to the old ways of growing roses as much as possible, with most tasks being done by hand and hard-graft alone: with care, craft, specialist knowledge and skill, underscored by a passion and love for what we do. As a family-run business, operating with a very small team at any one time, we are so thankful to the many wonderful people in our lives who have offered us help and support over the years. Rose growing isn’t the easiest profession – so we’ve been blessed to have had many brilliant workers over the years who have not only eased the load, but brightened our days in the rain, wind and baking heat of the Norfolk countryside.

We work hard to produce excellent roses and provide a high level of service to all our customers. If you need any help or advice, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
