More about Bourbon roses:
A chance cross between Old Blush China and the Autumn Damask led to the first of the Bourbon Roses. This occurred in 1817 on the Ile de Bourbon an island in the Indian ocean. Later it was hybridised further with Gallica and Damask roses. Most varieties are blessed with a good fragrance, recurrent flowering and refined foliage.
Sir Joseph Paxton – named after the English gardener, architect, engineer and MP (03.08.1803–08.06.1865) – has double magenta blooms which start quartered, but open more muddled. The flowers appear in clusters and are richly scented. It has mid-green foliage and is repeat flowering.
Pruning Guide: Prune in February/ March once established by reducing stems by no more than 1/3.
