We have been growing roses in Norfolk since 1984 and take great pride in producing quality plants. Old Roses are our special passion, yet we love roses of all persuasions and stock many beautiful Species, Shrub, Climbing and Rambling Roses, both modern and old. Our aim is to offer a range that fully embodies the sheer diversity that roses can bring to your garden. Fragrance, foliage, fruit and flower come in a multitude of variations and permutations that provides a rose for virtually every situation.
Most of our roses can be purchased bare root (dormant) for delivery from November until March, in addition we also offer a selection that can be bought potted in peat-free compost. Good cultivation in virgin soil, strict grading and minimal storage ensure that they arrive in the best possible condition.

Most Old Roses give us a glorious display from early June, that fleeting beauty which shouldnt be missed, but amongst them we find a few that will keep on serving. Repeatability appears in a few old classes and the Chinas are the most floriferous, diverse in both habit and bloom shape. Meanwhile the deeply perfumed Portland Damasks and Bourbons are able to give a 2nd flush from August. All quintessential for any old rose garden.

Remembering David Austin Snr by Henry White
This week we heard the very sad news of the passing of David Austin Snr. Â As a fellow proud rosarian, I want to remember him not only as a pioneer for modern roses but for creating joy in mine and so many other's lives. My own passion for his roses began as a boy, I remember smelling his rose 'Constance Spry'. It smelt heavenly and always seemed so perfectly shaped. As the years past and I understood roses more, I discovered this rose was actually David Austin's first introduction and was bred from old roses. It soon became clear this wasn't just any ordinary breeder, there was an underlying romantic story to it. Cupped and fully petalled, every of one of his roses was like something from a fairytale. The colours were never garish and the scents always pictured up 'elegance'. He was an auteur of roses and like my father understood that Old Roses should never be forgotten. As the new generation of gardeners and rose breeders take on their journeys into the 21st century, perhaps with the same dedication as David Austin, their possibilities will be truly endless. Rose Jobs for December
Rose Jobs for December December is still a good month to plant bare root roses as long a the ground is not frozen or water- logged. Good soil preparation is key to producing healthy and productive plants in the future so add plenty of well- rotted manure, garden compost or soil conditioner prior to planting. If you have existing roses clear up any fallen leaves to prevent the spread of fungal spores during the coming season. It is also worth picking off any diseased leaves that haven't dropped yet. Bin these leaves do not put on your compost heap. Some initial pruning of shrub and tall bush roses can be undertaken. Cut out any dead, diseased or damaged wood then trim back any really long stems to prevent wind rock. Check over climbing roses to make sure they are tied to their supports well. Tie in any new long shoots that might get damaged in the wind. We are now selling Gold Leaf gloves which we have been using on the nursery for several years. These really are the Rolls Royce of gardening gloves: hard- wearing and thorn-proof yet comfortable and flexible. So if you are looking for an extra special gift for someone (or even yourself) these are a great idea. Â
