A Full Description and Brief History. Etoile d’Hollande has elegant red buds which open into beautiful large semi-double dark velvety crimson blooms which do not fade and will flower from Spring until Autumn. It enjoys a sunny aspect and will keep well even in rainy weather. Its strong musk-damask fragrance makes this the perfect red rose. The healthy mid-green foliage covers the vigorous branching habit and it can be trained on an arbor, fence, pillar or wall and is extremely hardy.Soil differences are not a problem to this Star of Holland and it can grow as tall as 6 metres. It was discovered by Leenders in The Netherlands as a sport of the H.T bush and they introduced it in 1931 and in 1993 was rightly given Award of Garden Merit by the R.H.S
