More about Modern Shrub roses:
Modern Shrubs are a large assortment of mostly more modern hybrids of very mixed ancestry. All highly useful in their own individual ways. For the most part they were developed in the 20th century and do not fall into other groupings.
Constance Spry is classified by David Austin as ‘the original English Rose’. It was named after a pioneer in flower arrangement – Constance Spry (1886–1960) – who was also one of the first collectors of Old Roses in the early part of the 20th century.
Pruning Guide:Â Requires little pruning until established. Once established, prune by reducing side shoots to two or three buds of the main stem. Tie in any new long growths in a horizontal fashion during September.
